CREDIT UNION ADVOCACY - WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT!

Credit unions have provided a viable financial choice for consumers for more than 75 years.  Consumers have enjoyed the freedom to choose between for-profit financial institutions driven by a need to produce profits for stockholders and the not-for-profit, one member-one vote, philosophy of credit unions. Despite Wichita Federal Credit Union's focus on serving member-owners, banks continue to attack and call for changes to credit union practices.

Please consider participating in our credit union advocacy program. Project Raise Your Voice is an easy way to share your credit union experience with those who shape policymaking—legislators and the media. Please contact John Davis, Advocacy Coordinator, at 3730 W 13th Street, Wichita, KS  67203, for more information on how you can make a difference.

MISSION STATEMENT

The Wichita Federal Credit Union exists to provide quality financial service for our members, utilizing professional management policies and procedures.

Our field of membership now includes all persons who live, work, worship, or attend school in, and businesses and other legal entities located within Sedgwick County, Kansas, members of their immediate families, and organizations of such persons. As always, this includes City of Wichita employees. And, once a member, always a member!

WHAT IS A CREDIT UNION?

A credit union is a cooperative financial institution, owned and controlled by the people who use its services. These people are members. Credit unions serve groups that share something in common, such as where they work, live, or go to church. Credit unions are not-for-profit, and exist to provide a safe, convenient place for members to save money and to get loans at reasonable rates.

Credit unions, like other financial institutions, are closely regulated. And they operate in a very prudent manner. The National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund, administered by the National Credit Union Administration, an agency of the federal government, insures deposits of credit union members at more than 12,000 federal and state-chartered credit unions nationwide. Your savings are federally insured to at least $250,000 by the National Credit Union Administration.

What makes a credit union different from a bank or savings & loan? Like credit unions, these financial institutions accept deposits and make loans--but unlike credit unions, they are in business to make a profit. Banks and savings & loans are owned by groups of stockholders whose interests include earning a healthy return on their investments.
